Biography

Alfred Lorinius is a double and electric bassist with a deep and burning passion for music. After studying at Lunnevad and Skurup folk high schools, he graduated from the Improvisation program at the Academy of Music and Drama in Gothenburg in 2012. That same year, he received the Swedish Radio Jazz Award Jazzkatten – Newcomer of the Year with the group Farvel.

Alfred’s musical style is often described as rhythmic, lyrical, and dynamic, with a big, warm sound. He mainly works within modern and experimental jazz, where he both composes music and writes lyrics. He has toured in over 20 countries and performed at major festivals such as the London Jazz Festival with groups including Farvel, Förnuft & Känsla, Lisen Rylander Löve & Alfred Lorinius, and Naoko Sakata Trio.

Today, Alfred is based in Karlstad, where he has built a broad network of musicians across genres. He is a lecturer in bass and ensemble at the jazz program at Ingesund School of Music in Arvika, and he also runs the jazz club Bakgården Jazz in Karlstad, inviting leading musicians from across Scandinavia. Together with colleagues, he co-runs the record label toppkonst, where he works with recording, mixing, and production.

As an artist and collaborator, Alfred has appeared on more than 25 albums, released both on toppkonst and on established labels such as Jazzland Recordings and WeJazz Records. He has received several awards, including the Sten A Olsson Cultural Scholarship in 2016, as well as recurring support from the Swedish Arts Grants Committee and the Swedish Arts Council.
